Gun buyback programs have been tried tons of times in the US. Nobody is interested. It doesn't help that the government is stupid and usually offers well below the market price. There have been some hilarious instances of gun dealers setting up a booth across the street from the buyback and offering double the price the government was (which was still less than the market price for the guns).


Seems like a failure of implementation then. But I'll admit to doing pretty much no research on the subject.
