It worked in Australia, because the demand for keeping guns wasn't there. And apparently they actually gave decent value.

If the demand for personal gun protection in the US dropped, then a buy back would work trivially. It wouldn't even be a drop in the bucket of the budget. They could even exchange guns for bitcoin or some shit, people would love it.

But for some reason in this country where cops are shooting innocent civilians every day with no remorse nor recourse, armed with military weapons, and where the most egregious mass data and privacy violations are born, where the law has no meaning and where impulsive and dysfunctional fascism rules, people feel the need to own guns.
