Hollow Knight seems right up your alley. Incredibly well made game.
Playing more Owlboy, I didn't like the Jungle dungeon very much. The dark parts were frustrating, and I ran into several glitches. I got stuck in the walls for quite a while, and hitting the spikes and not being able to escape until I died was annoying too (this might not have been a glitch I guess, but it doesn't seem like great design if so). The game's been okay with no map so far, but I got lost here a couple times and would've really appreciated one. Wasn't really into any of the bosses, and the story was kinda minimal here. Sad that Twig's become the third party member too. Always thought he was pretty annoying, and was kinda hoping Anne would join permanently instead. His justifications were pretty weak (he started hanging out with robots because he wanted friends? Really?
Yeah, I'm with you on the map. One of the later dungeons, I totally went in circles for a while, but I was pretty into the game so I guess it didn't bug me at the time. A map would have been useful for the world map, and definitely would have helped in at least that dungeon. ---
