I'd say that any designer game (where a designer's name appears on the box) is almost by definition a hobby game. Often they have to be "discovered," as opposed to being part of general pop culture.

or maybe - games that you're not likely to play if board gaming isn't a hobby of yours.

very circular definition, but hopefully you have some idea of what I'm saying.

warhammer and CCGs are hobby games for sure, but they're their own hobby. I wouldn't consider Avalon a hobby, but Magic the Gathering is a hobby. I'd call those lifestyle games.
