It's about subtlety, mood, space, and change. Each phase and nuance needs to be appreciated. It needs time to go through its motions and let the listener take in each of them. It needs space to let the elements breathe. I listen to a lot of music with tracks that fill an entire side of a record. If I recommend music I like, it's hard to avoid long tracks.
