We don't have tons of long ones, but we do have a couple, and a bunch of shorter collections like this one, so, uh, hope you like Rave Master and Saiyuki? Actually I just hope anybody is reading this, period >_> Soda is still determined to be Argent's apprentice, and Argent is still being a tsundere about it, mostly because of the whole poisontouch thing. Apparently he still suffers effects from poison, even though it doesn't kill him. We are also still coming back frequently to the theme of "poisoning one's heart," and finally expand it a bit. Argent's seen some crap and it's messed him up a bit. Argent tries to save an old woman by eating her daughter's poisoned desserts instead, but the old woman finds out in the end and eats them anyway. Poignant stuff, although I wonder how many more stories we can get out of this skill set, y'know? Also Soda keeps trying to "help" Argent get with Primula, so that's fun. The previous story (the daughter was poisoning her mom because the war left them with insufficient means to feed everybody) inspires Primula to go on an incognito journey among her people. I appreciate the continuity! We also get a bit more of the backstory- Argent had been jailed for overturning a table of (poisoned) food. He also caught a conspiracy with Primula's aunt and maid. Got pretty dark. Apparently the son of the aunt is still alive, despite having been executed for treason! We get a really intense sequence where Primula kisses Argent to put herself under and fake succumbing to her cousin's poisoning attempt. This allows a rescue to move forward without harming the townspeople! Primula offers Cousinguy the throne to keep the peace, but the townspeople won't have it. Looks like Cousinguy learned something from this! He also manages to meet his father, who became an amnesiac after the mom faked his death. My rating: 9/10 Like I mentioned above, I feel like this somewhat restrictive concept that has a limited shelf life, but I think they've done a very good job with it so far. We're getting well-written romance, deep and reasonable characters (if you can suspend disbelief on the whole basilisk thing Argent has), and a story that has been ramping up in intensity.
