#151:

Just got back from Dweezil. Show was AMAZING. Went over 3 hours - great setlist and all the musicians were super talented, a good amount of on-stage banter and segues into other songs, etc. Felt just like seeing a real FZ show. The secret word of the day was a pulled pork statue of Nolan Ryan (because what else would you talk about in Houston). If you get a chance to see this act, you HAVE to go.

Setlist:
Band played Five Five Five for Dweezil to come out to, which was cool
Andy - this was a really great and traditional cover but done really well, Dweezil threw in an extra solo at the end that may have been my favorite of the night
Lonely Little Girl - Kind of a surprise, they seemed to add a second verse and a repeat of the song basically with Dweezil doing the melody on the guitar, followed by a solo
Flakes - This was a great setup, featuring some of the most banter of the night. The Bob Dylan impression was done by a female saxophone player who eventually referred to herself as "Barbara Dylan" which Dweezil was not having. The male backup guitar player then came out as Johnny Guitar Watson, at which point the re-appeared sax player came out as his apprentice, Johnny Guitar Cartman, and finished the Dylan part of the song with a barely passable Cartman impression. A little cheesy, but it worked.
Fifty Fifty - Probably my highlight of the night. This short white girl had been on stage and had basically done nothing to that point but a few backup vocals and some tambourine. She grabs the mic for Fifty Fifty and fucking kills it. Just perfectly done. One of the hardest vocals in the FZ catalog and she absolutely knocked it out the park. Great keyboard, sax, and guitar solos as well. This was probably the best stretch of the show.
Pojama People - My girlfriend was excited for this as we listened to One Size Fits All earlier and this was her favorite. Another great solo from Dweezil but pretty close to what you expect in this song from the regular FZ version
Call Any Vegetable - This was also awesome, the fast-paced JBLA version. Lots of fun.
Tell Me You Love Me - Pretty basic and boilerplate - well done but nothing special
Rollo - All versions of Rollo mashed into one. Not really my favorite song so kind of a lowlight I guess.
At this point, Dweezil said he wanted the audience to help him conjure the spirit of Stuebaker Hoch, which I freaked for because I thought it meant we were getting the whole Billy The Mountain, but instead they played the James Bond theme for a bit, and then maybe 5 minutes worth of the "Stuebaker Hoch" section from Billy. Another good solo.
Absolutely Free - Dweezil claims this song has never been played live in the same way as it sounds on the album until now. Pretty faithful, including some "special effects" to match the album version. Not a perfect match, but pretty close.
Dog Meat - The classical version, Dweezi says that when FZ wrote hard music, there often wouldn't be much guitar in it because "he really just wanted to hear other people play it."
Dog Breath - The classic "Token of His Extreme" version
Pound for a Brown - They brought out a special guest whose name I didn't reorganize for some stunt guitar. The sax player took the main melody while the guest and Dweezil did some dueling solos and then played together, a lot like that great video of FZ and Vai on Stevie's Spanking - maybe the overall guitar highlight of the night
Cocaine Decisions - Pretty standard cover
Ship Arriving Too Late to Save a Drowning Witch - Another fairly basic cover but with a longer and better solo than usual
