Finally wound up visiting friends for the weekend, going directly from work to their place, which gets around the power issue (although it's possible I could even have it back now). The major downside is that it completely fucked up my community day for Pokemon Go, ensuring I got fewer charmanders and, worst of all, I evo'd the last one a little too late for Blast Burn.

While I was without power, I decided to start watching some movies I picked up on DVD a long while back and just hadn't got to. Finally saw the Incredibles (and now I'm hyped for the sequel), Monsters vs Aliens (I also enjoyed Megamind, but sadly both movies underperformed so they'll never get sequels), and Indiana Jones & the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.

First off, let me say that Crystal Skull is probably my fourth favorite Indiana Jones film >_> I had heard people crap on it for years and yet somehow it managed to be even worse (but in different ways) than I had expected. The buildup for nuking the fridge was as hokey as the fridge blast itself, although I guess it made for a fun plot contrivance and the shower afterward was a humorous segue.

The villains in Crystal Skull felt completely pointless. Colonel Irina and Mac basically just stopped Ox from returning the skull so... Irina could return it instead, ultimately just accomplishing the same thing but getting a flaky death sequence in addition to it. And while the aliens *still* feel out of place in the Jones universe, I'm more okay with it than I thought I'd be going in. And seeing Cate Blanchett as Irina kinda taints my memories of her as Hela.

Granted, I still kinda wonder if I would have felt the same way about Crystal Skull if I had seen it around the same time as the other films. It does have some of the same goofy humor seen in the original trilogy (and my favorite moment was probably Indy needing to be pulled out of the quagmire with a snake)). The one knock against it -- and the same thing kinda missing from Temple of Doom -- is not fighting Nazis, although at least the Russians are also trying to put together a super-weapon.
