Wang was the one who made the GamerGate topic series.

It lasted 2014-2015 a little over a year

wang created the last topic in '16, actually.

I think Ive managed to come up with the briefest summation possible

GamerGate ultimately believes that having a personal identity as a gamer is something to be proud of, like an exclusive club, and any attempt to reach a broader casual audience with video games is a betrayal.

this was definitely a huge part of it yeah, especially in the early days. it all started with leigh alexander's article in which she supposedly said "gamers are dead" (which she did not actually say - the movement already started off on the wrong foot with people completely misinterpreting and misquoting the article). this led to a bunch of people going "OMG HOW DARE SHE SAY MY PRECIOUS CLUB IS DEAD." hence gamergate.

of course, the whole hardcore gamers vs. casual gamers debate is old as hell, but the "hardcore gamers" of the argument were now united in one movement with a name.
