Oddly, there was apparently absolutely no discussion of Black Panther. Is that something we want to start this time around? Or are we content to let that sleeping dog lie forever?

And at some point in the near future, I'll throw the Infinity War topics up here to reply to.

Let's do both. Spoilers might have been the reason for both. Or in my case, for basically being inactive for most of last topic.

I liked Black Panther. Not so much to explain to me its staggering box office success (it's still in theaters as it's coming out on home media!), but it's probably the best Marvel film focused on a "B-tier" Avenger (then again, I liked Dr. Strange quite a bit). Killmonger is definitely one of MCU's better villains (and it helps that I like Michael B. Jordan a lot, and I liked him on screen more than BP himself), and the music, visuals, and fights were all great. The story to me was just meh. The idea of isolationism vs. the globalism interaction Wakanda could have was a neat story idea, but I feel it kinda got lost in the shuffle of Killmonger's revenge plot, and BP's inner struggles on what it meant to be a king. I feel like honing in tighter on the struggle and responsibilities of a country like Wakanda has to itself and/vs. the world would have made for a more interesting outcome.

That, and I felt the scenes of meeting in the Korean casino or w/e kinda hurt the overall story flow, but BP was definitely good over all.

IW I thought was pretty sublime in a way, to pull something that big off that felt really well rounded over all. I especially like how dedicated they went to making Thanos that big of a threat and badass...since it's inevitable that the Avengers will come back and "win" in part 2, they really needed to make Thanos' victory here look dominating. And they did. Great fight scenes, proper time for basically all the heroes, good one liners (I'm really glad they gave Thanos the "You'll know what it's like to lose. To believe so desperately that you are right, yet fail all the same" line, just it's basically a giant "fuck you" to the idea of the power of friendship), tone....it was a big win for me.

I'll get into it more, but back to work for me.
