Even if an initial push of views doesn't happen with an upload, it always seems like more people are viewing my stuff lately. Likes are beginning to trickle in too, which never hurts. Before, it would just be views. I looked into new microphones just in case I ever want to upgrade, and I think I've settled on the Rode NT USB for $150-170. http://www.rode.com/microphones/nt-usb That's the best mic I can find that won't break my boom mic stand like the Yeti (and even the AT2020) could do. I don't think I'm going to buy it until I know for sure if the grad school situation works itself out.
