yeah they did temporarily suspend mint marks in the mid 60s, to give collectors less of an incentive to collect(since silver coins were being hoarded by collectors because the base material > face value), because certain coins with certain mintmarks are highly valuable(for example a 1909 VDB penny is worth 5-10 dollars, a 1909 S minted VDB is worth several hundred to several thousand)

Coin collecting is good but i imagine not so good for the mint who makes a certain number of coins for a reason, the more that get hoarded and pulled out of circulation is bad. I guess.

The most valuable thing I have so far, and thats not taking into account coins I might have missed because I didnt have the proper equipment to check for small and obscure varieties such as a 1992 close AM penny(less than a millimeter in space in the word "america" between the A and M is the difference between over a thousand bucks or one cent), is a 2009 A $100 bill, serial number LD00005269*

Its a star note from a run of only 320,000 notes, coupled with the fact the serial number is fairly low. I believe I could sell it on ebay for $200-250, but i dont know.

Always gotta be on the lookout for star notes as you can score some big money. Some one dollar bills come from insanely rare runs of only 32,000 notes, and as such command a premium
