Hm, let's see.

Russia : Tchaikovsky, Prokofiev, Shostakovich, Rachmaninoff, Vadim Repin, Tolstoy, Dostoevski, Gogol, Chekhov, Pushkin, Tarkovski, Eisenstein, Nikita Mikhalkov, etc etc etc.

The US : uhhh... Mickey Mouse ? Rocky ? The big mac ? Please help me here, I need people who will still be remembered worldwide 500 years from now.

I am going to take a wild guess that this sheds some light on the topic at hand.

This is a crazy comparison though. What about Hemingway? What about Orson Welles? What about Poe? Hitchcock? There is a bevy of Americans who have contributed to culture in incredibly significant ways.

Haha, I know right. You even left out some MAJOR ones, such as Mark Twain, Steinbeck, Faulkner, Salinger, Philip Roth (RIP, passed away recently). But still, it cannot compare to the literal steamroller that is Russian cultural patrimony. Not many countries can anyway :)
So yes, to reiterate, Russia is a damn GREAT country.
