I always loved the expanding universe aspect of having both Kanto and Johto... so when we got a third region and the previous two were scrapped in R/S... that was pretty much the end of me and Pokmon... until HG came through and took me back to the last one I really enjoyed. --- After a decade, Nintendo has won me back!
