She doesn't need to be named Buffy. The title of the show wouldn't make sense if there wasn't a character named Buffy that slays vampires. They could get away with it if they say she was named after Buffy Summers (that was her last name, right?) since as such a historically important Slayer (in universe) would likely cause an increase in people using the namesake --- "Salt cures Everything!"
