In order to defend the position you have to establish the following, at a minimum: 1. That the show is unambiguously "siding" with the adults/lawmakers of society in this case 2. That the decision is motivated by something other than their survival as a species 3. That this has any implications about real-life, modern society, given the massive differences between how our society works and how the society in the show works.
