Guys I figured it out.

The answer to why the skeleton wanted a friend dates back to decades prior, and deals with a lot of intricacies of skeleton society which seem foreign to us, so if this seems a little far-fetched just bear with me. I promise it'll all make sense at the end.

At least I hope it will.

The skeleton was born Jane Bogart on July 13th 1978 to emotionless parents Christopher and Elizabeth Bogart. They were emotionless because, or course, skeletons have no heart. This is the key to the riddle, as we will see.

Jane was always picked on in school because she had one very peculiar feature: she had an extra rib. Now, since she had no heart, the teasing didn't really bother her, and the teasers didn't really get any pleasure from it, and the teachers didn't care enough to intervene. It was really just something that kind of happened.

It really didn't even make her wonder, since she had no brain. Which would have confused her if she had a brain. Then she would have realized she didn't even have muscles so how could she move and really the other skeletons shouldn't have been able to move their jaws to tease her anyway, but again she didn't have a brain. She actually didn't even remember the teasing.

This would have bothered her if she had a heart but eventually she gave up and just decided the thing to do was to wait for a human to come up and figure it all out.

And that's why the skeleton wanted a friend.
