38. Beat a game you'd dropped or had a long hold on

Digimon World: Next Order (PS4)

This game had been on my wishlist and then my backlog essentially since I first heard about it a few months before it was released last year. I kept wanting to play it but knew it'd be a huge time sink so I always put it off. Once I did start, I kind of slogged through it for a couple weeks before putting in 10 hours today to finish it because I'm going on vacation tomorrow and didn't want to come back and have to try and pick up from where I left off.

The game itself felt like nostalgia was being injected straight into my veins. The original Digimon World on PS1 is one of my favourite games of all-time (top 25 on the list I did a couple years ago), and I knew I'd enjoy Next Order considering it was in the same style as that game. What I didn't expect was how much it drew from that first game. The soundtrack had remixed tracks from that first game, which blew my mind, and a lot of the Digimon you recruited performed the same functions in the city as they did in the original game.

I will say that if you don't have the nostalgia for that first game, you'll likely not enjoy this one too much. You get told to explore the world, with little knowledge, and everything kills you. "Grinding: The Game" is an equally appropriate title, with a solid third of my 35 hours spent just training my Digimon, including 8 hours today after I made it to the final bosses and initially got wrecked.

I still loved almost every minute of it! Not enough to dive into post-game stuff, though.
