It's only a matter of time before Eren goes Super Saiyan. I understand that people didn't really like this Arc in the manga so they're trying to speed it up. I guess the way they chose to do that as through flashbacks. It's not just a bad arc. They're introducing new elements and mythos that will impact the series in the long run in a negative way.
