My advice would be don't play FF6.

Not on your SNES classic, anyway. Get the GBA version, it's really the definitive version - doesn't have the YMMV graphic retouches of the mobile / PC versions, but does have all the extra gameplay content and bugfixes.

The music and resolution are both worse in the GBA ver. It's still piss easy even without the bugs and the bonus content mostly sucks. Fuck Dragon's Den and Soul Shrine.

The true definitive version is the Brave New World hack.

Haven't played that, heard of it though. It's just a difficulty mod (maybe with a bit of extra content), right? I've played similar mods of FF7 and FF8 and was thoroughly impressed, especially with FF8 Requiem (PS1 version) - it turned literally the easiest Final Fantasy into a very challenging game, that even as a seasoned player of FF challenge runs (though admittedly, primarily on FFX) gave me a very hard time. Thoroughly enjoyed it, fixed everything I felt was wrong with FF8. (My one criticism is that Omega Weapon is basically impossible without either save states or insanely good luck.)

I didn't notice any issue with resolution or music on GBA. If it matters I was playing it on a DS. Soul Shrine seemed stupid and I never bothered with it, but Dragon's Den was good. The cave itself was annoying, but the boss battles were great challenges.
