They began as the same pitch but Yuji Naka left to Sega of America to complete Sonic 2 while Naoto Ohshima stayed in Japan, pulled an Inafune and went from character designer to director making the game with a diffrent team from Sonic Team. The games are too diffrent and close to release for Sonic CD to be an enhanced port, not to mention the absence of Tails and Super Sonic as well as the wack ass spin dash. --- https://imgur.com/6AevF0Y LOL!!!!
