428: Shibuya Scramble (PS4)

Platinum'd.

It's an amazing visual novel. The game uses live-action stills and some occasional video. It makes it very immersive with every scene having different pictures and not just a character with a background. I also really like the presentation of the text since the text is nice and big and it also knows how to be dramatic, like having text show up in the middle or slowly showing words one by one for when the moment is appropriate. You play as 5 different characters and they're all very likable. The "gameplay" of the game is just making choices but the choices are very important since the choices in one character's story can affect the others' and can give them bad endings, of which there are 85 of them, ranging from serious to comedic, which also can describe the tone of the game, since the characters have very different events going on. You also don't have to worry too much about wondering if a choice you made a long time ago affected someone's ending since endings are restricted to the choices you made in an in-game hour. You go through the game hour by hour (in-game, that is) and your goal is to make each hour end with "To be continued..." for every character until the end. Some stories will be blocked out during your reading of them causing you to go through another's story to find red text, which highlighting gives you the ability to jump to another person's story and cause you to progress a previously blocked story. One other little thing I like is that there's a cool little preview when you begin a new hour that shows stills and quotes you'll encounter in the new hour. The story's quite gripping. I won't spoil too much about it but it starts with a kidnapping case but ends up being about much more. There is also a good amount of post-game stuff for a visual novel, with 3 unlockable stories and 22 unlockable special episodes, which are nice short stories about the minor characters in the game. Highly recommend.
