Is it fair to automatically assume that accusations like this are credible? Certainly it should be investigated, but to believe someone with no evidence just doesn't seem right to me. If we're going to believe this with no evidence, what is to stop political opponents from shutting each other down like this again and again?

The second accusation seems to have a lot of corroborating witnesses though

Didnt the New Yorker article literally say they couldnt find any corroborating witnesses though?

I thought they said they had not only someone who could provide similar details, that there was also a bunch of people who had had an email conversation about this a couple months back?

The New Yorker has not confirmed with other eyewitnesses that Kavanaugh was present at the party. The magazine contacted several dozen classmates of Ramirez and Kavanaugh regarding the incident. Many did not respond to interview requests; others declined to comment, or said they did not attend or remember the party.

A classmate of Ramirezs, who declined to be identified because of the partisan battle over Kavanaughs nomination, said that another student told him about the incident either on the night of the party or in the next day or two. The classmate said that he is one-hundred-per-cent sure that he was told at the time that Kavanaugh was the student who exposed himself to Ramirez. He independently recalled many of the same details offered by Ramirez, including that a male student had encouraged Kavanaugh as he exposed himself.
