The epitaph and the murders hold no real meaning for her, but combined they mean something. I was thinking the murders were maybe revenge against Battler, until Virgilia rejected it. I get the feeling Beatrice is really obsessed over this "sin" Battler did, and both the riddle and the killings are somehow clues to figuring it out.
