You'll know what you need based on what people mock you for.

So, basically, you're trying to base it on what other people, and probably the rude ones, think you need. Most adults I know don't openly mock people about not knowing something. Maybe jokingly, but I don't hear it much. Because most adults know that not everybody is going to know everything. Anyway, that still doesn't mean you'll know. They can mock you for not knowing how to drive stick shift, when what you'll need to know later is how to fix a hole in something by sewing. So, it's still goes back to you won't know what you need to know until you need it sometimes...

I know who he is and his story too, still know nothing about her wife beyond the incident. Again, dude on the internet's RL relations aren't things that typically stick in people's heads.

And I said that I would normally agree with you, under different circumstances. His story kinda stuck with me. And probably other people on the board. Not to mention that lots of us are regular who know a little about each other. That's why I said usually the case. But I feel this one is a little different. That's all.

You don't have to drive a stick shift, it's just important to be able to know how to drive one. A man shouldn't be conquered by a simple machine. So yes, if you can't drive a standard shift, I think less of you as a man. I don't think you should legally be allowed to drive an Automatic car if you can't drive a Manual, because that means you don't understand torque and power curves of your car, shift points and torque converter lock ups, you don't know how to maintain powerband and down shift gear through a corner (left foot braking in auto, heel-toe in a manual since you have to rev match up throttle.) You make the car work for you, not the other way around.

I mean, it's your right to think of people like that if you want. Not trying to be rude, but it kinda makes me think less of a person who thinks that, though. I know I had trouble when learning. Could I drive one? Probably. I'd need a quick refresher, but I could probably do it. Would I? Not unless I needed to, which most likely means no. Seems unless. Especially since they made Automatic cars. Why not take advantage of the advanced Technology. Plus, it one less thing to distract me on the road. I also don't think you always need to know all the stuff about the car that was mentioned in the quoted part, as well. But maybe others think it's important to know.
