not trying to defend the guy, but it did look like that he pointed the gun upwards at the last second and fired (also showcased by repositioning the stock under his arm and showing the extreme recoil), like a warning shot (which is also stupid and dangerous) rather than shooting at a fleeing kids back. i get the feeling that he was not purposely trying to kill the kid, but scare him or atleast he had a change of heart at the last second.
