Also, and I may be wrong here, but some people have said it kills cancer.

They have and that's a ridiculous, anti-scientific abuse of facts on par with "Reefer Madness".

The source of this misconception, near as I can tell, is that there was a study back 20 odd years ago or so where scientists injected mice with various forms of cancerous tumours with THC. They found that the THC helped treat some of the tumours (notably while accelerating the growth of others, something that marijuana advocates never bother to mention). The story was published and at that point a bunch of internet guys with "420" in their usernames took that data and spun it into "Smoking weed cures cancer!"

Notably, injecting THC is very different than ingesting it by smoking it or eating it, inhibiting tumour growth is not "curing cancer", and these findings have not been tested on actual humans (unless there's been a subsequent study that I missed). What weed has been found to be good for is symptom management, particularly for patients undergoing certain forms of chemotherapy, since it dulls pain and boosts appetite (two things chemo patients are typically in need of).
