This is exactly how I feel about it. When you are 5 years old, and claim to believe "in your heart" (or whatever the fuck) that you are the opposite gender......I don't think it should be taken seriously at all. However....outside influences slip in at this point. Teachers getting oversaturated with mandatory workshops and seminars about transgender students and how to be more tolerant and prevent bullying and stuff......so teachers are going to overanalyze student behavior. They will see a boy in kindergarten playing with girls toys, or being jealous when he sees his female peers getting more attention for having long pretty hair they can do fancy things with. The boy might casually say he wants to be a girl simply because he sees how they get more attention and happiness in school, and boys are kinda shit on. So he makes a comment to the teacher, and she makes a comment to the parents, and it becomes this whole back-and-forth where they are really overanalyzing the boy....and play along with his little wish because they don't want to be "mean" and tell him he's a boy and always will be a boy. So they allow him to identify as a female. They humor him. They support him.

Dunno. Just seems like when the kid is only 5, it's going to be outside influences that let the identity grow by watering the seed.
