No you're not, you're just giving them the freedom to dress the way they'd like to. Bathrooms are a point of contention, and I'd probably try to explain to them that they should continue to use the boy's bathroom in public settings, but otherwise, letting your child tell you what they'd like to be called and how they'd like to dress really isn't too radical a concept.

Kids however say stupid shit all the time as you know, they don't understand things. Letting a kid do and say whatever they want will quickly end is disaster. However dressing how they want(within reason) and liking whatever they want is harmless and not a issue.

I mean when growing up I played with my sisters barbie dolls. I don't know why but I had fun dressing them. These days I'd probably be told "it's ok you're a girl and should be one". It's nothing short of brainwashing.

Adopted kids often get to choose a new name for themselves, and even non-adopted kids might ask their parents to stop calling them by another name they decide sounds childish. It's not that big of a deal.

On the adoption front the kid normally has a name when they get put into the system although I am aware they do change said name at times to stop said kid being tracked down. Even then I'm sure the kid has no say in the matter. Still until they are old enough to do something about it my hypothetical kid would be called whatever I and the hypothetical OH decide to call it.

If they change their mind at age 6, so what? They're a kid, I wouldn't expect them to know who they are yet either way.

There is also no harm is letting them know their genitals dictate what they are and it's ok to like whatever you want without wanting to become trans.
