Honestly, a lot of my sessions with a therapist have been a whole lot of me venting, and not a ton of input from them. I have certainly never gotten the impression from any of my therapists that they are just "telling me what's wrong with me and lining their pockets". If I got that vibe, I would go to a different one.

Sure, they have also guided me and provided strategies for how to cope with my problems, but that honestly seemed like a smaller part of my sessions. And keep in mind, you don't have to agree with everything they tell you. Mine tried digging into my relationship with my brother for a few sessions and wanted me to take steps to patch things up, until a flat out told him I will not do that. Then he left it alone and we moved onto other things.
