On the mainland, definitely go to Shuri Castle and, if you're like me, cry while reading about all the damage the war did there. Churaumi Aquarium is pretty famous, even if I've still never made it there... being able to rent a car is a HUGE help, and I can't. It's touristy but Kokusai Doori (International Street) in Naha is pretty cool and very accessible, just a monorail ride from the airport.
