I'd be interested to hear what people think my accent is, everyone seems to give a different answer (and very few think it's that of where I'm actually from).
Fair enough. In regards to multiple accents in NZ - NZ is extremely multicultural so in that way there's a lot, but in terms of "native" (for lack of a better word) accent, there's not that much variation. Maori - our equivalent of Native Americans - often, but not always, have a very different accent from other NZers; that aside, there's small but noticable difference between North Island and South Island, particularly when it comes to the letter "R" in the middle / end of words.
In terms of my accent, I suspect it came from heavy speaking of other languages; Japanese and Korean in particular; as well as heavy exposure to American accents in media. All that combined probably explains it. ---
