35 y/o Rachel Peterson from Michigan was left devastated after a pharamcist REFUSED to give her prescription to complete a miscarriage because of his RELIGIOUS BELIEFS!!

She was greiving the loss of her twins when she was pregnant in July and opted to take prescribed misoprostol to rid of her uterus of fetal tissue and prevent a dangerous infection.

She and her husband went to Meijer pharmacy in Petoskey where a pharamcist denied her the medication.

The man said he was a GOOD CATHOLIC MALE and that he couldn't in good conscience give me this medication because it's used for abortions and he could not prescribe that.

She said "When i divulged to him that the fetus was no longer viable and that i needed to progress the situation further, well that's your word and i dont' believ eyou and he refused to fill it"

She then asked him to transfer it to another location but again, he refused.

They were on a weekend getaway attempting to cope with the loss of their twins and ended their trip and went back home where they went to another Meijer location

A Meijier spokeswoman released a statement writing "We recognize the right of aphramcist to abstain from filling a prescription based on his or her religions beliefs but the pharmacist is required to have another Meijer pharmacist fill the prescription or, if no other pharmacist is available at that time to transfer the script to another pharamacy convenient to the customer"

They didn't state if that employee will be disciplined as well.

The American Civil Liberties Union of Michigan got word of this and sent a letter writing "I think it's very clear in this case that had Rachel been a man seeking this exact same medication for stomach ulcers, she wouldn't have had been t urned away for the same reason."

This had been their lowest point in their life as they been trying to have a c hild and wered elated to hear they had twins but because of complications and at 9 weeks pregnant, she miscarried one child..a few weeks later she miscarried the other child from a bicornuate uterus.

Either she could wait for the miscarriage to complete naturally, take medication to move along the miscarriage or surgically empty the remaining fetal tissue..they decided with the fifrst option with the hopes she would miscarriage naturally. But because it took longer than expected, she was prescribed misoprostol to avoid the risk of a fatal infection.

Her mother said that her daughter was going through the worst in her life and judging her and making her feel bad about it and now she's coming forward with her story so others know what their rights are when retrieving medication.
