or one of the following

disease: humanity discovers a simple, extremely cheap and non-resource limited cure for any kind of sickness, illness or disease within the next 5 years. it won't prolong a natural, illness-free human lifespan by much, but it will obviously make life a lot more comfortable for everyone. you don't get to influence how or where it's discovered or if information about the cure is ever publicized, but it definitely happens, you just won't know where or how

famine: through various technologies, humanity might become able to produce an infinite amount of food from practically nothing within the next 10 years. you could pop out an uncooked grain of rice or a full 5-course meal with the press of a button. it can only be used for food and nothing else. the advancement process of these technologies over that 10 years is global, and unless many, many countries work together for no ulterior motive or personal gain, the technology will not come to fruition

flying: humanity starts undergoing a rapid, mysterious evolution and 5 years from now, the first human capable of autonomous flight is born. the change does not happen overnight, however, and over the course of those 5 years, the amount of disfigured babies born with different types of extra limbs and mental and physical disabilities grows exponentially. the phenomenon is global, and is first thought to be a (somehow) contagious genetic defect. the people who were born before and during these 5 years have no means of becoming able to fly on their own
