It's not up to the pharmacist, though. I don't know why the woman in the story thought the pharmacist was responsible for that. The procedure is to call the doctor's office that wrote the prescription, then tell them you ran into a problem with one pharmacy and need the prescription sent to a different one.

It can actually be really tough. Especially for controlled substances, I'm not sure what level of control this is under but I have had issues with anti-depressants before where my usual pharmacy just wasn't able to get my medicine in stock and yet still had accepted the prescription and was taking their sweet time transferring it. Instead of giving another prescription my doctors office actually called the pharmacy to find out what was going on and it finally got fixed.

But you know go ahead and thing things are so simple when you're wrong and it's not a problem for monsters like this to hold jobs they have no business being in.
