Actually, I don't need to think long term. He was the one that should have. Again, he was a huge idiot. I don't care if he had to spend the rest of his days flipping burgers, working in a warehouse or panhandling. He made that choice, not me.

There's literally no benefit to jailing him for this. That's my point. Throwing him in jail ruins his family and makes the country worse in the long term. He didn't ruin his family, enforcing this backwards law did. If the cops looked the other way, everyone would have been better off.

This was brought up already several times that that quantity alone already makes it trafficking. And nobody buys that much in bulk without clear intent to sell. If he had got home, those things would have instantly been scaled, bagged and on the street by now. I'd prefer him not selling on the street

I would if I had access to it. I bought a pound once and never sold any of it.

Even if he had been intending to sell it I don't see that as a reason to jail him either, but that's a different argument for a different topic.
