having previously finished the snes version last year, I bought the gba version of sgng. not a bad handheld conversion overall though the hit detection feels a bit weird and there isn't really quite enough screen space to fight some enemies like the ghosts where it gets a bit crowded or red arremers where they seem to stay just offscreen.

on stage 6 in arrange mode.

see in addition to the regular mode, there's a new mode where you can pick your route through the game if you have magic/gold armor at the end of a stage. So you can pick between the regular stage, a hard version of the same stage and a "new" stage. Also you don't have to play through a second time just to get the goddess bracelet.

the "new" stages are mostly based off of stages from other games and new bosses. arrange stage 2 is based on stage 2-1 of ghouls (so cutting out the neat looking part of the stage with the town on fire boooooo), with a red arremer boss. Stage 3 is based on stage 4 from goblins with the same dragon boss (with a new sprite), stage 4 is based on stage 1 from goblins and has the cyclops/"unicorn" boss at the end but with the wolves and bats from super instead of the crows and randomly spawning wind mages and some weird changes like randomly getting Angry Moon'd at the end of the first half and you have to cross big stretches of water in the second half using petrified wind mages that come to life when you step on them as platforms. kind of a waste to rehash a stage 1 so late in the game, instead of picking something a little more interesting visually like stage 4 in ghouls. Stage 5 seems to be original, a water cave although it seems a bit cheap in terms of deaths imo and the boss has a bit too irregular pattern for this series.

also, something I found amusing is that capcom managed to spell 'red arremer' three different ways in the same paragraph in the instructions (calling the boss version 'red armor' and then referring to the regular kind spelled with both an 'e' and an 'i')
