It is beloved by many. Ok this is interesting, i actually want to hear your opinion on this. Is it the dumb fanservice? I like anime based on food. Restaurant to Another World was one of my favorite anime last year. While I respect the fact that Food Wars does have actual food based science and whatnot in their series, the show does not really focus on that aspect. Instead it focuses on ridiculous fanservice, stupid melodrama, and the actual food is secondary to these elements. It basically could have been an anime version of Iron Chef, but turns itself into a fanservice mess filled with idiotic melodrama and contrived narrative elements in service of that melodrama. I might be in the minority, but what I don't want out of a food anime is basically using it as an excuse for melodrama and fanservice. Yeah i had an idea that what you would say would be that, and i honestly agree, but on my side i just go with the hilariousness of it and enjoy it, i fully agree with your points though, it could've been something much much better if they focused mostly on the food rather than the food being just there, and this is coming from someone who studied this stuff.
