Topic	I've started playing Dark Souls for the first time! :D spoilers

I'm in this open street with a bunch of people fighting me, to say nothing of a what appears to be a giant armoured rat. This game isn't overly concerned was realism. I'm able to get by most of the enemies, just avoiding them, but can't figure out what to do. I guess I'm meant to go through that giant gate, but don't know how to open it. --- It has been 0 days since something interesting happened.
