Oh yeah I had a MH related question.

I'm currently playing Generations, and the only other one I've played was Freedom Unite on the PSP several years ago. I'm at 5* now.

I feel like I'm playing the exact same game with the exception of the far from game-breaking Hunter arts.

I don't just recognize entire maps and just about every enemy/boss, I also already know the exact location of many things, like where to find the powderstone in the volcano.

Are the games samey in general or did I just happen play two clones of each other?

I also still know exactly how to use the hammer because in weapons training most I killed it with the hammer almost 3 times faster than any other weapon...

Generations is using content pulled directly from most of the games prior to it, yes. It does have a large amount of new content as well, but probably the majority is lifted straight from previous games with minor (if any) adjustments.

The game you are playing is the culmination of over a decade of releases and is intended as a celebration of the franchises, revisiting old favorites and including as many maps and monsters from the franchise as they could. It is not exactly typical, but the older games do borrow heavily from their predecessors.
