You are correct to infer that Persona 1-2IS-2EP are more akin to original SMT, especially in terms of tone and atmosphere (and dense plot, especially in 2IS and 2EP), and 3-4-5 is more ... modern, and not in a way that appeals to all gamers, which is a fair assessment. See, I think P5 is cool, but I understand why it is not for everybody.
