yeah I love higurashi and it's a shame it doesn't get as much discussion and analysis as umineko because honestly... it's more of a story that has straightforward themes that can be easily discussed. a lot of the character work is laid out early on and pays off later. the stupid slice of life stuff they do, sitting around having fun and playing games, often relates to or mirrors events that happen later on. sometimes things that happen which seem normal end up being the trigger for extreme events that happen later. other times it's just narrative symmetry between how a game plays out and how real events will play out later. etc. etc.

there's so much there to pick apart in each episode and across the story as a whole.
