I had used Starch for the majority of the game but for the final 2 zones and final bosses I did go back to Cactus. I'd say be aggressive, try to grab Shutdowns whenever possible and make good use of temporary invulnerability when switching weapons. It might also help to check out TrueAchievements or YT for videos.
