I don't see it, but I'm also not super familiar with their work.

Either way, I have to say that the characters and story are one of the weaker points of the game, so far. The characters are ridiculously forgettable and the pacing is godawful so far. The first time you go riding to your next mission, it's great. Super atmospheric, random adventures pop up out of nowhere. The fifteen time down the same dusty road and I'm suddenly reminded why I play games to escape from the dredge of reality.

Not to say it's a bad game. Far from it. It's amazingly polished and has some great fun moments in it, but I feel like it's trying to hard to tell a realistic story and that just doesn't mesh well with the open world action adventure genre. I also feel like they spent too much time on making pointless side stuff feel realistic. They could have easily put half that effort into fixing the stupid police system and it would have been infinitely better.

I never have issues with cops.

It's more like; I'm in the wilderness, rob someone for their horse, random passerby I can't see witnesses and reports it to the town ten minutes away, and instantly a party of seven heavily armed deputies appears fifteen feet from me trying to arrest me. I accept it, because it's a video game, but at the same time, it's like, "why spend so much time making horse balls react properly to temperature if you are just going to fall into video game fantasy anyway?".
