Ultimately, how do you want your drawings to look? In terms of realism, I've struggled with portraits and faces since I've barely focused on drawing them, but I've been looking a lot at these 19th century artists recently. It's very inspiring seeing how remarkable the portraits they draw look:

and I'm trying to get my portraits to look like that. Hair is the hardest though.

It truly was astounding, I mean look at these portraits:

But then, a combination of photography coming about and a shift in subject matter caused the decline of this style. I think it is more beautiful seeing people captured this way than with a photograph.

old painting is really pleasant to look, i wonder why regular photo could never achieve this kind of pantyness. it don't want to stand but it stand out hmmm
