How have I missed this topic?

Very cool stuff!!

Because I've mainly been keeping it bumped, and I kind of want it to purge tbh.

@Vol2tex I think her head needs be adjusted about 10 degrees. But I filled in some of the nose and hair and it looks decent enough.

Trying to get likeness down and eventually be able to cartoon people and have it look like them. I heard that is something you can't really teach.

And man I want to see some Renaissance paintings again. I saw a Caravagio (1700's Flemish right?) showcase that was an extra $20 I believe. Something you have to see in person because high res scans don't do them justice.

There are classes and books that teach cartooning, but I think it is harder than realism since you have to use your imagination rather than reference or a live model. Developing a good grasp on the basics is most useful, but some artists like Disney animator Fred Moore though took no classes yet did amazing drawings like this:

It's actually amazing seeing the 1930s drawings by animators and comic book artists because many of them had little to no training yet produced fantastic drawings. I think some of them just naturally can draw the images they see in their head.

Caravaggio was in the 1500s and not Flemish, but yeah it is stunning seeing these paintings up close.

i think the more i look into it. the more i feel that hayao miyazaki quote about otaku being the cancerous thing is probably true.
