hell, NCR in itself is indirectly sequel content to 1 and 2. I just take "new vegas 2" as meaning revisiting the area. at the very least it'd be nice if bethesda didn't pretend like the entire setting of the original two games practically doesn't exist. but I'd imagine their writers would do shit like "new vegus fell and evrybody died cuz that place sucks so much also ncr died of being the biggest dumheds ever and evry1 in cesars legion became cannibols and ate each other, also tunnelers" so maybe that's for the best that they don't.

I must have been unclear; by direct sequel, I mean picking up immediately after. The game takes place 80 years later in a completely different location. Yes, there are nods to the original, but if you missed the first one, you aren't going to be lost in the second. It's not one singular narrative, it's multiple loosely related stories that are all connected by taking place in the same thematic universe.
