I'm not talking about people living in urban centers -- although even there you have places where transportation is limited -- I'm talking about MOST of the country. Throughout large chunks of the country, going without a vehicle during winter is almost a death sentence.

Population-wise, it doesn't apply to most Americans as most Americans live within accessible distance to public transit

Most of the country is nothing

It's the same in Canada... but most of Canada's population has access to transit.

Granted, even in cities you'd have some pretty major logistical issues if you didn't rely on automobiles for the transit of goods whether it's b2b or customers trying to bring their stuff home.

And "impossible" is setting a ridiculously high, completely insincere bar.

I managed for nearly an entire decade in several cities, no vehicle. it sucked sometimes but it worked.

the sole standard I set is that people can live without cars. no more or less. how inconvenient life gets without the vehicle is irrelevant. people can live without cars, and most Americans can.

Imagine how much more quickly public transit would improve if everyone had to deal with that hassle and make it a priority
