I don't know. 60's Adam West 'dorky Batman and Robin' is one of our most well loved Batman representations. Batman Forever and Batman and Robin often come to mind when people think of a less serious interpretation of the Dark Knight, but when we look at cartoons like Batman the Brave and the Bold, or movies like the Lego Batman we can see that there's room on the sillier side for a more successful movie. Hell, even the 90's Batman/Superman crossovers worked. I don't think having the two of them present in a single movie is the problem in the slightest. I think they just can't get away from the baggage of those earlier movies.
