Stopping violence is impossible, but you can lessen it.

Shootings in hospitals have always been more common than you might think. I worked as an EMT in a city called Brockton in MA in 2005 and we had a whole protocol for active shooters in the emergency room.
I personally enacted those protocols over a dozen times.

Granted, often times the "shooter" just had a gun and never actually shot.
